Health & Genetic Guarantees
We also include with our Tiny Teddys puppies, among many other assets, a written health confirmation from us and our veterinarian examination proving they are in excellent health. All of our puppies come with our either 5-year genetic guarantee OR our unprecedented lifetime of your dog genetic guarantee. In the event of death due to a genetic tragedy, an available puppy of your choice would be provided. We do not cover vet costs or other ownership expenses. Ownership responsibilities, age, weight or non-genetic issues must not play any part in the cause, propelling, or degeneration of a puppy/dog issue.

Our astounding guarantees are unmatched and unheard of in the dog world. We are that dedicated to the Zuchon (Shichon) and the constant pursuit of knowledge on our dogs. You won't find anyone else standing behind their puppies with such confidence enough to back them for 5-years or a lifetime as we do! To provide these amazing guarantees, we must also take various precautions that we know to be of utmost importance. Therefore no puppy is scheduled to be viewed (no exceptions) before being thoroughly vet checked and received their vaccines and all puppies waiting to be picked up by their families are home. This process begins at 8 to 9 weeks. This time frame is on a per litter basis if we think more time is needed. In this same regard, for obvious reasons, no puppy is guaranteed or able to leave our home until their vet check has taken place.
Our Lifetime Return Policy
As responsible, ethical companion creators who genuinely love our Teddy Bear Zuchon (Shichon) puppies that we bring into the world, we have designated ourselves as their lifetime guardians.
We offer a lifetime return so that our puppies/dogs always have a loving home to count on if your situation ever becomes one in which you cannot keep your puppy/dog. We require that he/she be returned to us in the same continued excellent condition as your puppy was provided to you in and the same pick-up method in which your puppy/dog was received at your expense, including flight home in an airline-approved crate if required (crate won't be returned). Once home, they will re-trained, settle back into our routine and go back to having a great time with their friends and family until we find the perfect new home for them (if at all). This policy is in place to protect our puppies/dogs from ending up in shelters, pet stores, puppy brokers or puppy mills, from being a weekend novelty or a trial run at dog ownership.

All of our love and an immense amount of laborious effort go into our puppies and their parents. This endeavour requires all of our time and an endless amount of finances to ensure our puppies and their parents are exceptionally cared for at all times with or without a current litter. This doesn't just start with the birth of a litter, a considerable misconception to those who don't know the time and costs involved. It takes years of preparation and commitment for each of our parent dog's entire lifetime. They are our life companions and never for sale. The Teddy Bear Zuchon (Shichon) was introduced at the start of the new millennium by combining the Bichon Frise & Shih Tzu. The Teddy Bear Zuchon (Shichon) was created to fill the need for a patient, cuddly, intelligent and highly trainable service and therapy dog that is flexible and can go with the flow with a happy-go-lucky attitude and content with being held for long periods. Also known as the Zuchon or Shichon, this dog has earned its place as one of the cutest companion dogs.

Our puppies are the total package for health, temperament & beauty!
We always receive amazing comments from our veterinarian during our puppies vet check, commonly referred to as the total package for health, temperament & beauty. Our puppies are always thoroughly veterinarian checked before leaving our care at eight weeks of age by our well-trusted veterinarian. During their wellness exam, the veterinarian spends about 10 to 15 min with each puppy and typically checks for the following:
- Weight is taken & recorded on an exam pamphlet that will go home with the puppy.
- Puppy's temperature — 100 to 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit is normal.
- Checks each puppy's pulse and breathing rate.
- Listens to the puppy's lungs with his Stethoscope for any lung abnormalities or harsh lung sounds.
- Listens to the puppy's heart with his Stethoscope to detect any heart murmurs, irregular heart rhythm.
- Examines other internal organs by palpating or feeling them.
- hecks the puppy's ears to ensure they not only look right but also smell right, ensuring there are no infections or parasites.
- Checks the puppy's genitals to ensure two testicles are present in males and there's no sign of discharge or infection in females.
- Check eyes up close with his scope.
- Checks nose.
- Looks over the skin for any abnormalities.
- Checks for fleas (We use Frontline flea & tick prevention on our dogs and puppies to prevent heartworm disease, dermatitis ticks, chewing lice, fleas, flea eggs, ticks, mosquito bites etc).
- Inspects the anal region to check for discharge or other signs of disease or parasites.
- Examines the puppy's mouth to see that teeth and gums look as they should.
- Checks the belly button for an umbilical hernia (although common, we typically have none due to our hand-delivering method of whelping our puppies).
- Checks the puppy's joints for normal movement and the kneecaps will be checked to make sure they are not loose.
- Checks nails and trims if needed (we do this ourselves usually).
- Gives the puppy the start of their vaccinations and provides proof of completion to pass along to the new family
- De-worms each puppy and sends home a follow up dosage (will be either done for you or in your to-go bag).

Litter box trained! - We start their litter box training at 3 - 4 weeks of age, and it works like a dream for long-term use, house training, travelling etc. The litter we use is earth-friendly and biodegradable and doesn't resemble anything else in your home, discouraging accidents. So when your puppy arrives home, you're free to enjoy him or her, rather than clean up messes. Our puppies are also familiar with pee pads for use in carrying bags, crate training, during flights and road trips etc.
Our adults and puppies are fed top quality holistic all-natural food, daily probiotics, all-natural homemade cookies, homemade dehydrated treats made from various meats, fish, fruits and veggies and other health-building ingredients—sourced fresh from farms, fishing and our garden, local markets. For example, if you are asked to commit before breeding a litter, and we then create a litter for your reservation, you must remain committed or lose your deposit.)
- The moving of a deposit is not available once a puppy is chosen.
- Transferring placement without providing an updated preferred date or not returning our communication will be required to contact us when they want to be included.

We are located just outside of Vancouver on the stunning West Coast of Vancouver Island, B.C, Canada. When we are not at our home in the Cowichan Valley, we can be found enjoying our remote Island getaway, where we try to spend most of our time. We embrace every opportunity to enjoy life with our dogs and family, as captured through our thousands of photos and videos provided documenting the last 20+ years of our Zuchon passion. The unlimited supply of untouched lakes, ocean inlets, beaches, forest trails, and other outdoor activities that our less-populated area provides us to explore with our dogs by our side leash-free is truly an amazing experience.

Bringing Home Your Puppy
Our puppies FLY FREE to Vancouver (YVR) & Victoria (YYJ), including FREE HARD-SIDED CRATE!
- Valley A FREE Flight to Vancouver YVR (or Victoria YYJ when available)
- FREE flights to Vancouver YVR (or Victoria YYJ when available), including a FREE keepable hard-sided airline-approved travel carrier, are provided for the flight option only. This is not reimbursable if picked up in person.
- We use a small commuter plane. We find them to be the best option and personable than the large commercial airlines with little to no wait time before the flight by allowing us to check in 45 min before the flight and remain with the puppy until take off. Unless they ask to puppy sit until the flight leaves, they love our puppies. They also ensures the puppy is last on and first off.
- Flights are on a stand-by basis.
- Flight & delivery are subject to our availability, previous commitments, weather conditions, road conditions, flight availability etc.
- We (Tiny Teddys) both books and pays for the flight to Vancouver YVR (or Victoria YYJ when available) for our new fur parents to be
- Additional time and or training may be available should remaining here past the available date be required at any point. Spots are limited and by request only. See Puppy Sitting & Training page for details, fees, and rates.
- In the event a flight to Victoria is not available, you/buyer will be required to go to Vancouver YVR as a backup plan.
- In the event of an issue with the flight arrangements happens, then plans for the next possible flight will be arranged.
- The new family (buyer) is responsible for arranging to be at the designated pick-up location regardless of the originating home location, with no exceptions.
- Flights to additional locations beyond Vancouver YVR or Victoria YYJ are too considered too long of a journey for the puppy to be unattended.
Flying your puppy home – Our flight process-perfected from experience, is our preferred pick-up method for many wonderful reasons. It provides a unique opportunity to welcome the littermates travelling together upon arrival and meet the other fur families waiting. For our puppies, it's a quick, pleasant experience with the added security of travelling confidently with a littermate for their first big trip and crate experience, setting them up for future travelling success.
We infuse lavender into their bedding for flight comfort and provide a bully chew for entertainment. They arrive with a buddy (when possible), happy and stress-free, with their support system and typically still enjoying their long-lasting chew treat. Providing the ideal opportunity for more time and energy to interact with their new family upon arriving home.
We are also experienced in long-distance relationships – Our puppies have been placed in amazing homes up from Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick, Italy, U.K, Singapore, Washington, Arizona, California, Florida, New York, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Montreal and more.
- Meeting in person or partway is an option for approved families when we are available at our Cowichan home.
- Our puppies are typically reserved in advance by our repeat families and their referrals that we have already met due to our long successful history.
- Our application and screening process are required before considering anyone for one of our precious puppies.
Additional pick-up options when we are available in at our Cowichan Valley home or away at our remote Island retreat
- Cowichan Valley home – We can meet in town, at the ferry on this side or a flight to Vancouver YVR is also available. When we are at our Cowichan home, approved families with a commitment in place are also welcome to come by (with an invite) for puppy and parent viewing.
- Remote Island home - Our vacation home, where we aim to spend most of our time enjoying nature with our dogs, is located over 3.5 hours away from the nearest town. The limited accessibility, unreliable conditions and lack of cell service for such a lengthy journey make our prepaid flight the only option while at our remote slice of heaven. The flight is quick and stress-free, providing more time to enjoy your puppy's arrival home. They travel with a chew that keeps them busy and a pal when possible. We provide this service free of cost, including an airline-approved crate. All arrangements are weather-dependent, especially during fall, winter, and spring.

- Puppies are born eight weeks after conception and ready for their new homes 8 to 9 weeks after birth.
- Once the litter is born, we will work through our waitlist in the order commitments were placed to match the perfect puppy to the right family.
- We provide an arrival announcement and nursery photos around two to 4 weeks of age. Mike and I take alternating shifts with mom and puppies for the first 2 to 3 weeks, depending on litter size, to ensure the clock 24hr care for all.
- During the first 2 to 3 weeks of a litter's arrival, it's all about mom and puppies to provide much-needed bonding and quiet time with her new pups. This also allows our family to recover from the round-the-clock care and observation we provide mom and new puppies before we begin answering specific puppy questions, emails etc.
- If you have a future date/year in mind, we will make a note to contact you then.
- We do not provide placement numbers as many of our commitments are waiting for a specific puppy or timeframe, time of year etc., and typically move around until the perfect puppy choice is made.
- Once a choice is made, you must remain committed.
- Once we contact you with our exciting puppy arrival news, if the timing is not quite right, or the colour and sex requested are unavailable, no problem, we will contact you for the next litter and so on until the desired puppy choice is made.
- Your timeline to start planning for your puppy's arrival home begins around 8 to 9 weeks after their date of birth, with the exact date provided once the puppy's veterinary appointment is booked.
- Once a litter is born, we schedule their veterinarian wellness exam and 1st vaccines in advance for their eighth week. The date of the puppies going home is then planned for the following days, on a day and time that works best for us to fit in all families (not by request). We will provide this date early with plenty of time to prepare to be available for your puppy.
- When making a puppy selection, we notify our families around five to six weeks of age and provide new nursery photos of the litter to help the choosing process. This time frame is of particular importance. It allows us time to observe, evaluate, and monitor each puppy's progress to ensure proper development continues, so we are confident of each puppy and their continuing advancement and excellent health.
- At that time of choosing, you may either select your puppy or pass and move to the next litter and so on, until you find your desired dream puppy. We adore our puppies and care about their potential family's happiness together, so our deposits are always movable until you find your perfect companion. Unless arranged otherwise. For example, if you are asked to commit before breeding a litter, and we then create a litter for your reservation, you must remain committed or lose your deposit.
- We are happy to choose the perfect puppy for our families to be. We also allow our families to select their puppies with our assistance. You may also change your previous colour or sex request to choose the perfect puppy for you.
- Once families on our Tiny Teddys waitlist have made their choices, we can then present the remaining puppies to those next on our waitlist. If possible, we can then move to our available puppies page and begin accepting and screening applications for the perfect family.
- We first take commitments and then breed a litter for those reservations, so having an available puppy is rare but worth the wait. We feel this is of the utmost importance in our proven responsible breeding practice.
- Once the selection process is complete and your dream puppy has been chosen, the total remainder is due. Payment is accepted any time between litter arrival to choosing, with the deadline being once you have selected your puppy to secure your choice. Minus the deposit amount paid.
- Photos are done every 3 to 4 weeks when we see they look different than the last. We don't take requests for photos. We spend an enormous amount of time providing high-quality images in groups and individual albums.
