Our Vancouver Island Life
We share a wondrous Vancouver Island life with our Zuchon companions. Our dogs, aka the puppy’s parents, enjoy our outdoor adventures as much as we do. They’re equally happy to curl up by our side for a good Netflix n’ Chill night.
They enjoy a variety of activities and interests, including swimming, with their natural love of water often beginning at a very early age.
Our adults are our personal, forever cherished companions. They live a life of love, freedom and fulfilment by our side, tagging along wherever we go and enjoying life as our adored companions.

Why We Don’t Use Guardian Homes
We’re commonly asked if we have a “guardian program.” We don’t support the guardian-home practice for numerous reasons, including quality control, behaviour, traits, nutrition, prenatal care and postnatal care.
Our philosophy is simple: We are all about ethics and quality, not quantity!
As responsible and ethical breeders, our goal is to carefully advance the quality of the Zuchon while producing only a limited number of puppies. This is also why we don’t stud out our males.
Keeping our dogs within our own breeding program allows us to have complete oversight of their health, nutrition, environment, behaviour and care throughout their lives. It also helps us protect the exceptional health and condition we’ve worked so carefully to maintain within our lines for more than two decades.
There are also important health considerations when introducing outside dogs into a breeding program. Numerous infectious diseases can be transmitted between dogs, including Canine Herpesvirus (CHV), among many others. For us, quality control is paramount when it comes to protecting the long-term health of our parent dogs and their puppies.
Our Moms Stay With Us
For us, keeping our moms with us throughout pregnancy, birth and puppy raising is about far more than breeding. These girls are our cherished family members, and caring for them during this incredibly important time is one of our greatest responsibilities.
After more than 35 years of personal experience in breeding, we know how important it is for our moms to feel safe, secure and supported by the people they know and trust. Pregnancy, birth and raising a litter are significant experiences for a mother dog, and we believe she deserves to have the people she relies on most right there beside her.
There is so much happening during those first eight to nine weeks. Mom’s comfort, happiness and confidence matter, as does the environment in which her puppies grow and learn. Puppies take in everything around them, including their mother’s behaviours and emotional responses.
For Mike and me, raising a litter is a full-time responsibility and dedication, 24/7, 365 days a year. Being there for our moms and their puppies every step of the way is simply how we believe it should be done.
