We have been continuously working on and improving our line for over 17+ years in order to create the ultimate Teddy Bear breed standard Zuchons will be known by. This also means they no longer tend to have the issues of their purebred ancestors consisting of the Bichon and the Shih Tzu only. For example our Zuchons have more athletic builds with longer stronger legs, stronger bones with larger joints & tendons and deeper sockets compared to the Bichon and the Shih-Tzu as well as longer noses, larger stronger teeth and deeper eye sockets rather than the flatter face and bulgy eyes of the Shih-Tzu.

Their adorable Teddy Bear features and sweet cuddly personality continue into adulthood. When fully mature they weigh between 5 and 18 lbs. Grooming: With regular combing very little grooming is needed if their hair is kept in a low maintenance "teddy bear cut” or "puppy cut" generally every 3 months. It best represents the Teddy Bear Zuchons look. Regular combing is recommended it is great for bonding and mat prevention along with nail trims and eye trims between haircuts/grooming. As with all dogs regular teeth cleaning and removal of tarter is important for overall health
Hypoallergenic Non-Shed Coat - Non-shedding and hypoallergenic, meaning most individuals will not be allergic to them as they may be to other breeds, making them great companions for allergy sufferers. Their hair is easy to groom, and they love baths, gladly jumping in when they are asked to. Their fur grows like hair and keeps growing until it is cut and doesn't fall out like fur
Learning Rate - Eager to please their owners, they have a high learning rate as they inherit the high intelligence of both the Shih-Tzu and the Bichon Frise. This means enjoyable puppy days and easy puppy rearing as they catch on quick to everything they are taught
Exercise - Ready to go or ready to snuggle the choice is yours. Minimal exercise is needed or required but they can easily keep up with an active family or active individual. They are well suited to be an indoor dog, but also enjoy outdoor activities such as walks, laying in the sun, playing outdoors on sunny days. They love to swim even as puppies they will run right in so keep an eye on them. They can adapt to long outdoor walks and outdoor activities, but can easily be satisfied with indoor living as well
Hybrid Vigor - Hybrid vigour is a term describing the breeding of a genetically superior offspring by combining the benefits and not the disadvantages of the originating breeds the Shih-Tzu & the Bichon. Not all cross-bred dogs are necessarily superior to their originating breeds, but delightfully the Zuchon hybrid is superior to both the Bichon Frise and the Shih Tzu
Purebred Ancestors - Purebreds commonly have genetic disorders, disadvantages caused by years of inbreeding. The Bichon Frise has been bred since the 14th century in Spain and was a cross between a Barbet Water Spaniel and a Poodle. The Shih-Tzu comes from China and is known to date back at least to the sixteenth century. Cross-breeding the Bichon Frise and the Shih Tzu results in the Zuchon, which has less chance of inheriting the genetic disadvantages of either originating breed.
We provide 17 years of personally documented history –
Our groundbreaking views and techniques make us stand out. As touched upon earlier in our website, one of those assets is our dedication to the advancement of creating only true Zuchons as we only breed multi-gen Zuchons to one day be recognized as the breed standard by the CKC & AKC. Being multi-generational is a more advanced Zuchon and requires decades of dedication to achieve the appearance, health, personality and demeanour our dogs and puppies are so adored for.
Beware of imposters! We see many un-reputable breeders calling their puppies a Zuchon or Shichon when, in reality, contain additional breeds like Maltese, Havanese, Lhasa Apso, Poodle, Cockapoo, Japanese Chin, Pomeranians, Cocker spaniels, Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie), Dachshunds or Chihuahua etc. Much like a Maltese + Yorkie makes a Morkie and is no longer considered a Maltese or a Yorkie. Or, like a Poodle + Golden Retriever makes a Goldendoodle and is no longer, of course, considered to be a Poodle or a Golden Retriever. The term Zuchon or Shichon is used to describe a breed specifically containing Shih Tzu & Bichon only. Adding anything additional is, of course, not a Zuchon and will not at all resemble a Zuchon or Shichon as the dog will not have the same health characteristics, overall appearance, coat, fur length, face shape, ears, tails, colouring, stature, size, attitude, personality, patience, calmness, trainability, and happy go lucky demeanor etc that the Zuchon (especially our Zuchons) are known and adored for. To claim a "Zuchon or a Shichon" when a dog is, for example, clearly part Yorkie is a disservice to those who have actually (personally) invested decades into progressing the breed. It shows a complete lack of knowledge about dog breeding. Proving they are only out for the quick buck and do not at all care about the breed or it's a progression as an actual Zuchon or Shichon. Indicating a possible a puppy mill as they show total disregard for those buying what they think will be a proper representation of a true Zuchon or Shichon by falsely representing the breed and should be cause for concern as it is a false statement and false representation.
Our custom play centers complete with stairs, and a slide is just one example of the challenges we incorporate into our puppy curriculum. Early stimulation methods designed to draw out their natural abilities create superior puppies that are happy, confident, loving, highly intelligent and easy to train dogs. Numerous studies have proved that incorporating a stimulation and socialization program improves cardiovascular performance (heart rate), stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands, are more tolerance to stress with greater resilience to diseases
